Want to take a blast from the past? Well, you may not be able too after the explosives have been water logged for so long. Explosives were found from the 1870's at the bottom of Lake George.

Police say recreational divers made the discovery sometime over the Labor Day weekend. According to WNYT,  divers found four crates of presumably live ammunition dating back to the 1870's. Now it's up to the U.S. Navy to retrieve it from the bottom of the lake.

The sheriff has asked the United States Navy to come in to take care of the explosives. The sheriff won't say exactly where the ammo is because he fears that someone will go looking forward and get hurt trying to find it."

The ammo appears to have the markings of a company named Hotchkiss.

An internet search shows that that company made cannon type guns that were used at Wounded Knee and in the Spanish-American war."

No word on why these explosives were in Lake George.
