17 Year Old America’s Fastest Texter

If texting were an Olympic sport 17 year old Austin Wierschke of Rhinelander, Wisconsin would be wearing a gold medal around his neck. Instead, he is carrying a $50,000 check to the bank as winner of the sixth annual U.S. LG National Texting Competition held Wednesday in Times Square. According to the AP the competition was judged on “speed, accuracy and dexterity – on four different challenges.”. Austin, who also won the competition last year, was well prepared for the challenge.
To practice for the competition, the 17-year-old champion said he sent almost 500 texts a day to his friends.
Austin plays to save the money for college which, when added to the $50G he won last year, will give him a pretty nice nest egg for his future studies.
